Surf guitarists belong to a rather small niche of musicians that cares (a lot) about “the drip, ” a word that might sound foreign to their non-surfing colleagues.
To sound authentic, and describes a typical ping-like sound analog spring reverbs (the ones with actual springs in them) produce after a percussive note is played.

Among the YouTubers we aggregate in this pedal blog, our friend Ryan from 60 Cycle Hum has developed a reputation as the “drippy reverb expert” – since Surf is the musical genre he performs with maniacal passion.

How To Use Guitar Pedals In The Studio
Catalinbread Topanga$200 - This pedal came out years and years ago but still holds up, decent approximation of a drip but a really nice surfy tone and a lush sounding trail that fits well in a mix.
Milkman Sound F-Stop Trem + Reverb$249 - Not a true surf reverb but still has a nice little drip, a beautiful trail and a very nice built in tremolo, this is a good compromise for someone who wants a hint at a surfy sound but not a full drip.

Best Analog Reverb Pedals
For now, I've got a Jordan BossTone for my Jaguar, a Barber Trifecta fuzz, Boss CE-2 Chorus, Whirlwind Orange Box Phaser, a Digital Delay TBD and a Boss RV-6 if I'm not using the amp's spring 'verb.
All opinions expressed by this poster are well thought out and based on actual experience and/or scientific experimentation, except for those which are knee-jerk reactions or good sounding fantasies.

Surf Guitar Rig
My main setup consists of a Dunlop Cry Baby, DigiTech Synth Wah, Keeley Compressor, Wattson SuperFuzz, Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble, EHX Pitch Fork, DigiTech TR-7 Tremolo Rotary (but I use my DRRI onboard tremolo), MXR Carbon Copy and Ernie Ball Volume Pedal along with a Fender RI reverb tank.

Some cool, mostly simple rigs.I'm trying to decide if I should drag along my Roland Space Echo RE-150 and Real Tube Stereo Reverb.
As the setlist calls for it, I may use a Neo Mini Vent for rotary and a Catalinbread Fuzzrite. I use a Pedaltrain 24 Metro w/ HSC so I tend to swap in and pedals based on need in order to keep it to this size.

Most of the time I will use my Fender reverb but if I really have to travel light I use my FRV-1 as a substitute.
Guitar Pedals For Metal
This is the best sounding setup I've ever used. The reverb & trem are run through the effects loop of my tech21 Trademark 60, w/ the reverb BEFORE the Trem. That let's me use some nice subtle trem settings w/o everything getting washed out. The polytune is hands down the best stage tuner I've had. Last but certainly not least, I LOVE the AC+! It's just my sound... but more! The board itself is a cutting board from target... 6 bucks out the door & I power everything w/ a Onespot adapter.
Now there's a dude who likes his Catalinbread stuff. How do you like the Topanga? I keep a Holy Grail on my board, because I manage to break the spring reverb in my amp several times per year. I'm hoping to find a better alternative to it.
Whilst playing surf, I always have the Wampler on, with either the TC Electronic Mini-Spark, or the Vox Tone Garage Flat 4.

The top pedalboard I use with the Madeira and the bottom with the Space Cossacks and the Blair-Pongracic Band. Keep it simple. Tone – control is very versatile and sensitive. You can dial in the right amount of treble or bass depending on the guitar you use and its pickups.
The sound of the Rumble Drive is never harsh or brittle. It has a smooth break up and retains a lot of the guitar’s dynamics even at high overdrive settings. At a gain setting of 2 o’clock, the Rumble Drive reaches its maximum gain. Once you go past this point there is no more gain left, but the overdrive tone becomes more complex and harmonically rich. Turn it all the way up and you’ll get a very sweet overdrive with loads of harmonics! When the “Gain” control is turned off all the way to the left, the Rumble Drive produces very little or no gain at all. At this setting you can use the Rumble drive as a master output and tone control. If you engage the Delay & Reverb circuits and use the Rumble Drive output as a clean boost and the tone knob as a master tone control, you can enhance the sound of the Delay or Reverb or both. If you want to introduce just a little drive, try increasing the “Gain” control up a little. This will give your Rockabilly riffs attitude and really make them jump out of your amp!
The Delay in the Rumble Seat is about as sweet as it gets. With delay times that range from 25ms to 650ms, going from a Rockabilly slap to a Gilmourish long delay trail is as easy as a turn of the knob. Let’s have a look at the controls:

Delay – Controls the time of the delay. At full left, the delay time is 25ms. At full right, the delay time is 650ms. The delay circuit is very natural and smooth. If you want to kick it up a notch and give it a bit of attitude, just add in a little Rumble Drive. The one thing that you will notice is that your guitar’s tone will remain full and rich. Some delay circuits rob the guitar of its low end. That doesn’t happen with the Delay on the Rumble Seat. Like a vintage tape delay, the more you overdrive the delay on the Rumble Seat, the sweeter it gets.
