That's after one of its original six-string instruments made in the 1870s was smashed by Kurt Russell on the set of Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight, according to a report on reverb.com.
The guitar was on loan for the film from the legendary guitar-maker's museum in Upper Nazareth Township, and six doubles were made for the scene, ssninsider.com reports.

As Jennifer Jason Leigh's character strums the artifact, Russell was to smash it -- but only after one of the doubles was swapped in, the reports say.
Well, somehow that didn't get communicated to Kurt, so when you see that happen on the frame, Jennifer's reaction is genuine, ssninsider.com quotes the film's sound mixer, Mark Ulano, as saying in December.
Kurt shattered the antique guitar and everyone was pretty freaked out, Ulano continues in the report. Tarantino was in a corner of the room with a funny curl on his lips, because he got something out of it with the performance.

Martin Guitar's museum and archives director, Dick Boak, told on Friday he's been asked by a higher-up not to comment further on the incident.
But in the reverb.com report, Boak says: As a result of the incident, the company will no longer loan guitars to movies under any circumstances.
