One reliable litmus test for determining whether your domestic partner is in fact a soul mate, or a cell mate – is to share the same living space, uninterrupted for several consecutive months, without days at the office, business trips, or any other pesky interruptions to your “togetherness.”
In their latest collaboration, Happy Anywhere, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani make the case that they very much enjoy each other’s unending company…and we believe them. The home-made video shot at Blake’s Oklahoma property and released last week is convincing evidence. Some things you can’t fake.

In the video Blake plays the GD51CE-NAT G Series model that he adopted as his farm guitar. But over the years, the excellent guitarist who is prominent in the band mix and well versed in solo acoustic sets, has employed several Tak models including the P6N-BSB, EF341DX, TAN15C and the EF360SC-TT from ’s Thermal Top TT Series.
But the Tak model perhaps most closely associated with Shelton these days is the P5DC-WB, spruce top, rosewood back and sides dread cutaway from ’s Pro Series 5, the WB indicating the whiskey brown color that first appeared on a custom Tak for Blake that eventually inspired the model.
Blake’s strong preference for guitars dates back to 1992 when the then 16 year old Shelton watched a new, red-hot fellow Oklahoman named Garth Brooks set the industry on fire in that first iconic primetime TV special, an event Blake references in this twitter message to Garth from last year.

“Obviously, none of us like these circumstances, but I’d be lying if I said that I’m not having a blast being stuck at home for this long because I’ve just never gotten to do it before, you know, ” Shelton told SiriusXM’s Storme Warren. “Since I’ve owned a home, I’ve never been able to be there more than two weeks max at a time. I told my manager, I said, ‘Man, you might have a hard time getting me to go back on the road again.”

While the rowdy, summer anthem, written by Brooks, Mitch Roselle and Bryan Kennedy, was not originally slated as a duet, Blake's powerful live performance on the CMA Awards of his own single, God's Country moved Garth and prompted the call.

Still very much that stone-country kid from Ada, Blake’s deep-rooted C&W sensibilities followed him into the session. “He was nothing short of fantastic” said Garth. “He kept pushing for more steel guitar, more country”.
During the first of two sold out shows at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho. Plans to launch a seven city Dive Bar Tour into the heart of Garth’s ongoing (three year) stadium tour have also been announced, fueling speculation as to exactly which “dive bars” Garth has targeted, and if maybe Blake might show up at a few as well.

Garth’s favorite of late has been a custom “Circle G” prototype featuring his signature lower-case “g” logo suspended in the sound hole via a circle of honeycombed cedar laser-cut into the solid top. And while the remarkably big sounding prototype built almost 5 years ago may never become a regular Garth model, it seems to have found its time and place on this particular tour. Aside from the 3 original prototypes, only 10 additional “Circle G” guitars have been built, all of which were reserved for the tour. Of course, Garth’s traditional Signature Model GB7C remains in the mix.
The model most associated with Blake these days is the whiskey brown P5DC-WB dreadnaught cutaway with solid spruce top, solid rosewood back and rosewood sides from ’s Pro Series 5. Blake can also be seen playing an old favorite TAN15C from time to time.
While Shelton loved working with Brooks, he joked he's a little more apprehensive about performing the songlive with him. That's the scary thing about performing live with Garth -- you don't know if you're gonna be swinging in on a ladder or if you're flying in on a wire. I hope he knows that I probably exceed any weight limit on any of those tricks, and he needs to just let me walk out there and sing, he cracked.
