We wouldn’t have the rock and roll music we have today if not for Saul Hudson, AKA, Slash. Slash was a guitarist who got got his start with Guns n’ Roses. He was influential throughout his life as a musician and created a whole new type of music that helped a lot of young musicians figure out their styles.
Saul Hudson was born on July 23, 1965 in Hampstead, London. His father was a white graphic designer from London, and his mother was a African-American costume designer. When he turned 5 years old, his family moved to Los Angeles, where he grew up. He ended up dropping out of school to play guitar. Soon he had met Axl Rose, and all the ads he had put out in the paper for other instruments where answered. In 1985, he formed the band Guns n’ Roses (GNR). While with them, he created revolutionary riffs such as the intro to “Sweet Child of Mine.” In 1996, he left GNR and formed Velvet Revolver. In 2001, he suffered from heart failure, later writing about it in his autobiography. After leaving Velvet Revolver, he joined Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators. He is still with them today.
Slash is a change maker because he lead the path in a new type of guitar playing. He started his career with Guns n’ Roses. It was with them that he uncovered his authentic playing style. What came out of it was a choppy but slurry, loud but suttle, and overall, a glorious style of riffs. Take “Sweet Child O’ Mine”, this song starts off with a riff that is quick and loud, but almost lagging. Many people have tried to replicate his style, but ended up creating different styles all together. In action he helped many guitarists find their how they wanted to play.

After he got his start with GNR, he went on to use his unique style in many other ways. After leaving GNR he released his first solo album Slash, featuring such artists as Ozzy Osbourne, Adam Levine, and Myles Kennedy. He would later go on to work with Kennedy. While working solo, he evolved his playing style to be more diverse. He worked his way into more mainstream rock, while still implementing his old styles. This transformation is most notable in “Anastasia”. He worked to get others like him going on their own paths, , which worked successfully.
A lot of young musicians have replicated his style and tried to follow in his footsteps. Many of the more recent ones succeeded, but people trying to replicate his old style would end up failing. Dave Baksh, born in 1980, is the largest user of his style(Sum 41). Although they couldn’t crack the code of Saul Hudson’s style, he affected tons of young musician trying to get into guitar. Many of them would go on to create their own styles that were slight offsets or variations of his style. Some of the greatest current musicians would even use similar styles, like Joe Perry, the lead guitarist for Aerosmith.
Slash changed guitar across the world. He helped millions of upcoming musicians by starting a new type of guitar playing, then showing the world his now-famous style. Slash moved to Los Angeles with his father wh he was five years old. His parts were both active in the tertainmt industry, and he was giv the nickname Slash as a child by actor Seymour Cassel. In 1983 he joined the glam metal band Hollywood Rose, th in 1985 he joined Guns N' Roses (which was composed of former members of Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns), replacing founding member Tracii Guns.
In 1994, amid growing tsions within Guns N' Roses, Slash formed the supergroup Slash's Snakepit, and in 1996 he left Guns N' Roses. In 2002, he co-founded the supergroup Velvet Revolver with vocalist Scott Weiland, which re-established Slash as a mainstream performer in the mid to late 2000s. Slash has released five solo albums: Slash (2010), Apocalyptic Love (2012), World on Fire (2014), Living the Dream (2018) and 4 (2022). All but the first of these were billed to Slash featuring Myles Knedy and the Conspirators. He returned to Guns N' Roses in 2016.

And Total Guitar placed his riff in Sweet Child o' Mine at number 1 on their list of The 100 Greatest Riffs in 2004.
Gibson Guitar Corporation ranked Slash as number 34 on their Top 50 Guitarists of All Time, while their readers landed him number 9 on Gibson's Top 25 Guitarists of All Time.
In 2012, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Guns N' Roses' classic lineup.

Of his mixed background, Slash has remarked, As a musician, I've always be amused that I'm both British and Black; particularly because so many American musicians seem to aspire to be British while so many British musicians, in the 'Sixties in particular, wt to such great pains to be Black.
During his early years, Slash was raised by his father and paternal grandparts in Stoke-on-Trt while his mother moved back to her native United States to work in Los Angeles.

The band never materialized, but it prompted Slash to take up an instrumt. Since Adler had designated himself the role of guitarist, Slash decided to learn how to play bass.
During his first lesson, Slash decided to switch from bass to guitar after hearing Robert Wolin, a teacher at Fairfax Music School, play Brown Sugar by the Rolling Stones.
His decision to play guitar was further influced by one of his school teachers, who would play songs by Cream and Led Zeppelin for his studts. As a result, Slash stated, Wh I heard him do that, I said, 'That's what I want to do.'

He vividly recalls the feeling after learning Come Dancing from Wired by Jeff Beck, his greatest influce, which he described as fucking awesome.
Practicing up to 12 hours a day. Slash attded Beverly Hills High School and was a contemporary of musicians Lny Kravitz and Zoro.
In 1983, he formed the band Road Crew—named after the Motörhead song (We Are) The Road Crew—with his childhood frid Stev Adler, who by th had learned to play drums. He placed an advertisemt in a newspaper looking for a bassist, and received a response from Duff McKagan. They auditioned a number of singers, including one-time Black Flag vocalist Ron Reyes, and worked on material that included the main riff of what became the Guns N' Roses song Rocket Que.

Slash disbanded the group the following year due to them not being able to find a singer, as well as Adler's lack of work ethic compared to himself and McKagan.
He, along with Adler, th joined a local band known as Hollywood Rose, which featured singer Axl Rose and guitarist Izzy Stradlin. Following his time with Hollywood Rose, Slash played in a band called Black Sheep and unsuccessfully auditioned for Poison, a glam metal band that he later oply derided.

They played Los Angeles-area nightclubs—such as the Whisky a Go Go, The Roxy, and The Troubadour—and oped for larger acts throughout 1985 and 1986. Before one of the shows in 1985, Slash shoplifted a black felt top hat and a Native American-style silver concho belt from two stores on Melrose Avue in Los Angeles.
