The Fender Custom Shop offers two build levels – Custom Built and Masterbuilt. What is the difference between Master Built and Custom Built? The entire build process for a Masterbuilt guitar - from picking out the raw woods to final assembly and setup - is personally managed by one of Fender’s most senior luthiers – The Masterbuilder. This option is required for certain projects with more complex specifications or requirements (for example: cloning a particular vintage neck profile, specifying a maximum weight for your completed instrument, or building that double neck 6/12 Tele with a built-in ant farm that you’ve always dreamt about). You can also choose Masterbuilt if you just feel like having your guitar built by the same guy who builds for Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck or David Gilmour. Custom Built guitars are crafted in the Custom Shop by a team of Fender’s most experienced builders. For less complex instruments that may not require an additional level of personalized attention, this more efficient Custom Built process can provide an excellent value. Delivery time is usually shorter as well.
