In this guide, we'll go over how you can make money with the various musical instruments and make money with them. This comes as a mystery to some people, because the options to do so do not appear until late in the skills. Playing guitar, violin, or piano you can license songs. With The Sims 4 City Living Expansion Pack you are also able to sing. With a little skill in the instruments, you can make songs for them! You can, of course also use just the microphone.
You can make money with all the base game instruments, and sing if you have City Living. Vampires as an instrument, as do the City Living, Get Together, and Get Famous Expansion Packs.
You can begin to write songs in instruments and singing at level 8. It takes about 12 hours to write a song, one of the longer actions in the game. You do so by clicking on the instrument. With singing, you can either click the instrument or microphone although it's worth noting to use instruments you need at least level 3 skill in them.

Write your songs in public. Why? You can earn money from tips while you do so! Your tip amounts as a singer are based on singing level, not your shoddy guitar skills.
While you can't write songs for a long time, you can earn tips! You're best off getting your practice in public so that you can use the play for Tips option. For each level you gain, Sims will tip another $2. Tips can come in waves and it's possible to make a couple hundred Simoleons in a single outing. It's not big money, but it'll keep the bills paid.
I feel it is important to note that if you're trying to live off music, it's best to write your lyrics in public. Why? You still get tips even when not playing for tips!
How To Write Songs In The Sims 4
It's possible to earn a bit of side money with the instruments, but you won't get rich unless you make your Sim multi-talented. At level 9 in each instrument, you can now license songs. It makes sense you need to be talented to make money with music. It just doesn't translate well to gameplay as you have to go a really long time before you make any money.
Licensing is done with the Mailbox and you can resume songs by clicking the sheet music in your Inventory. You can only license one song at a time for each instrument. It's one of the silliest limitations in the game, but it's there. Writers don't have this problem, so why should musicians? At any rate, the song will play for about a week and give you income each day at 10AM. You'll earn between $200 and $800/day. It's not career or writing level money but it's money, nonetheless.
If you have City Living I strongly suggest singing and using all instruments to back you up. Write a lyrical song, then write a piano song, a guitar song, etc. and you'll be bringing in anywhere from $1200 to $4000 per day if you keep it going by writing a song each day. When you need time for other things, just release a few less songs each week.
Ways To Get Better Guitar Recordings
Want to make money as a musician in The Sims 4, don't just write songs for one instrument. Take a creativity aspiration when you make your Sim. This will give you Muser. Now if you also get inspired, you'll get a huge 40% boost to skill gains while leveling creative skills. You can then level up to 8 and 9 in various instruments.

You really only need to write one song for each type of instrument. The same song can be licensed again when the royalties run out.
It does take 12 hours to write a song, but it doesn't need to be done at once. A digital music file can be found in your sims inventory with the option to resume writing

Before you begin skilling up guitar you want to try and be in an Inspired state. So, take a Thoughtful shower, and follow it up with Listen Deeply to a boombox. You'll be immediately working on the first component of the Aspiration too which is Listen to Music for 4 Hours. Once you hit skill level 2 you can purchase a cheap computer to have nearby so you can Research Guitar. If your guitarist is an Art Lover they can also look at art on the computer for yet another quick
